During our shows at first Friday in the beatiful yet vintage Blue Star arts complex and Second friday at Tobin Hills with our unique curb side gallery, we meet with allot of intresting and inqusitive indivuduals, from artist, to tatto artists and business professionals. When I speak with them about our foundation and the signigifcance it can serve our community as well as up and coming San Antonio artists, their eyes light up with surprise. Surprised about the fact that we are trying to change the way Graffiti is perceived. The business owners believe it to be a nussiance, neighborhoods see it as an eye sore, some view it as art, but, those that veiw it as art, are very few. The media has dedicated a significant amount of time protraying Graffiti as if it where a cancersou eye sore. I can agree with some of their viewpoints, but, not all. Graffiti is a word used to describe words, markings, or elaborate paintings on public property. Which without the building owners consent is a punishable crime. And it should be. But, lets us begin to learn about Graffitti before we decide it isn't art or should be viewed upon as an eyes sore. Graffiti has existed since ancient times, with examples dating back to Ancient Greece and The Roman Empire.But today spray paint and marker pens are the most common tools of these artitists. Now, again when I'm speaking of Graffatti as an art I'm not talking about the taggers that write on buildings, street signs, trains, and other public domains, representng their gang affiliation. A true Graffiti artist expresses social and political messages and has become a type of pop culture. To Graffitti Foundation it is an art form that we want to promote and place in galleries to display the talent that these artitst posses. We want to change the view that graffati is vandalism.
Controversies and anamosety surround graffiti and continue to create disagreement amongst city officials and law enforcement and graffitists who wish to display and appreciate work in public locations. Let us be your platform to promote your social message the right and legal way. We will supply you with the tools to not only make a name for yourself, but, money in your pockets when your paintings sell. We are Graffitii Foundation and we stay true to the pop cultural and the ideals these Graffitti artist represent. If your not a graffitti artists or do not enjoy, please come out to first friday and second friday events and witness for yourself what these graffattii artist can do on a canvas, we have sold many paintings to people that were amazed that it was done by a former "tagger". If Graffatii art isn't your type genre, we also showcase artistits that paint Abstrat art, Impressionism, Expressionism, Realism. If you like drawings with crayons on fifth grade construction paper, I would be more than happy to sell you my nieces amazing drawings. Graffitti foundation is looking for you to help change the negative image behind gfraffiti art and, help the San Antonio art scence become as big if not rival other metropolatin art scences. Ofrendas del Corazon

We are very happy to announce our partnership with the Ofrendals del Corazon organization!!

Ofrendas del Corazón is a silent heat art auction and the major fundraiser for the Michael M. Rutledge Legacy Award, a scholarship for PSJA Dual Language students. Michael M. Rutledge passed away on March 25, 2007, and was a sophomore at PSJA North High School at the time. His parents, Melvin and Nelda Rutledge, made the decision to donate his organs. It was through this gift that Michael was able to provide a new chance at life to 5 Texas residents.

Each year wooden hearts are given out and decorated by student, teachers, various community members and notable celebrities. The hearts are decorated as the participant chooses and then sold in an annual silent auction which is held the Friday before Valentine’s Day. All of the proceeds from Ofrendas del Corazon benefit the scholarships given to both PSJA High and PSJA North High Schools.

Sixteen new paintings by local artist Alejandro Padilla will be on view at Gallista Gallery July 11 through August 5.Following the success of his 2008 Contemporary Art Month show, Sanctified Science/Theoretical Sacrament, Padilla returns this year with Humanness Thereafter. This new series of works builds upon Organic and Geometric Symbolism, an idea that Padilla first developed and explored in his previous show. Of his new work, Padilla says, “If Sanctified Science/Theoretical Sacrament represented the shortcomings and failures of man, then Humanness Thereafter is the antithesis of that show because the work now emphasizes the persistence and adaptation of man.” Padilla’s signature use of undulating organic forms combined with the stabilizing presence of geometric shapes depicts an awareness of human existence devout to the inevitable evolution of man. There will be an opening reception on Second Saturday, July 11 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM.

Last month's inaugural Tobin Hill Second Friday event "Art on the Hill" was an incredible event, with four venues participating and more than 300 people enjoying local artworks. Read news coverage of the event here.

This month, join your friends, neighbors and art lovers from around the city for an expanded event that includes eight venues and features a variety of visual arts from painting, metal arts, sculpture, ceramics and more.

Jill Pankey Opening at Galeria Ortiz

On Friday we stopped by Galeria Ortiz, located at 4026 McCullough, just north of Downtown. We were astounded by Jill Pankey's Art Opening "In the Moment". The paintings were incredible, capturing beauty, mystery, and fun in vivid color and posed action. The paintings seem to come to life while you look at them. Down at Deep Rooted

So, this past Saturday we were once again in attendance at another event in the San Antonio art scene and were as always in for a treat. While the music was a little late in starting; when it did get going the art showing was all that better. We were at the Deep Rooted showing from start to finish and enjoyed every minute of it and for those that couldn’t make it rest assured we have you covered. That is that we took a trip to the Rock Bottom Bar last Thursday... The Rock Bottom Bar is small, but booming venue located at 1033 Avenue B # 1, San Antonio, TX 78215. Call for more info @ (210) 320-2387

We were told that there was going to be music and art; of course, since one of our artists was making an appearance, we had to go, and wow, were we in for a treat! The music rocked and the art was awesome, here is just a peek of what was going on that night.

It took some finagling with the school, but we got it approved and we will be at the corner of the Bill Miller Plaza (Buena Vista Street @ S.Pecos (35 feeder)), caddy corner to the Fiesta Fantasias at the Market Square. Artist statement:"Art is my passion, and it never leaves me. I am self taught, working mainly in watercolor but also enjoy pastel and pencil. I work from my own photography, capturing ordinary people, enjoying and surviving the challenges of life and sharing that moment in time with my audience.

My goal is to show the sparkle of life, the humanity, and the individual beauty of each face I portray. For me it defies the stereotypes and preconceived notions of who people are and what they are about.

We are all connected and the diversity just makes it all a little more fun and colorful. Enjoy

As a long time resident of Seattle, WA area I got my start at the Burnley School of Professional Art in Seattle, after which, began working as a technical illustrator and model builder. I then became drawn to fine art and have been accepted by and exhibited in many juried show around the Northwest including: National Western Art Show and Auction, Ellensburg, WA, Annual Northwest Invitational Painters Show, Gallery Mack, Seattle, WA. Gallery Bound Project

We are working closely with the Gallery Bound project in trying to spread the word and message of art over vandalism.

Please check out the website for more information. We hope to be more involved with this project in the future, and we own one of the pieces.

"Gallery Bound is a SMART/ART educational partnership program designed by Sean FitzGibbons, a Youth Program Coordinator for District 6 Councilwoman Herrera. The purpose of the program is to educate youth concerning graffiti abatement by teaching other mediums not associated with tagging or graffiti while strengthening fine art backgrounds by getting youth “off the streets and into the galleries.” Instructors Aaron Moreno and Joe Delacruz teach stencil and silkscreen techniques. Established artist and educator Alex Rubio, who was a prolific tagger, gives a lecture addressing the significance of the program: to provide an opportunity to cultivate their personal expression while providing career exploration, cultural awareness, and education of the arts. Gallery Bound is funded by San Antonio City Council."

Who We Are:

We are a group of UTSA Seniors with the Business Entrepreneurship College that are creating a Social Enterprise. Essentially, what a Social Enterprise\Entrepreneurship is, is a business that is for profit, but the profits do not go back to an individual, they go back into the business to facilitate its operational costs and growth.

Project Background:

We have started the G.R.A.F.F.I.T.I Foundation, which stands for: GatheringResponsible Artists For the Fight In Transcending Irresponsibility. What we want to create is an organization that brings in artists of any medium and gives theman outlet to create work and create products with their images for sale. We want to promote the artists and assist them in business mentoring, art mentoring, and reach out to those that may not have the opportunity for a college education. We want to be able to show artists how to create a business and a living, doing what they love; in addition, to raise funds for those who have an interest in pursuing an academic career. Moreover, we want to create a sense of community, social awareness and responsibility.
Our organization will basically be a promotional tool for the artists andgive them a platform to showcase their works in various locations, i.e. UTSA Artspace, the Gallery Bound project, and other local art venues. We will use the artist's images to create our products; art prints, t-shirts, calendars, etc, butall original art still belongs to the artists and will be a focal point of an art show for sale to the artists. After the business has reached its rate of return on those products, the artist will receive a percentage of that profit for as long as that product is carried. We will also help them create their online shops as an offshoot of the project for their own profit.
We will provide all of these services free of charge, all we want from theartists is a donation of their time to community service, specifically workingwith the Graffiti Wipeout project, and if they continue to be a supporter of the G.R.A.F.F.I.T.I. Foundation, then some exclusives for the Foundation to create new products.
